Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Crafts Review and Giveaway
A few weeks ago, 415 pages full of projects, inspiration, resources, and templates showed up at my home. It would not be an exaggeration to say that I have looked at it at least once a day.
Martha Stewart's Encyclopedia of Crafts is available for purchase now.
The book is divided into subjects with several projects in each. You'll find beading, decoupage, soap making, matting and framing, and even a whole section on glittering. The projects are for all skill levels and interests.
The last 50 pages or so are dedicated to tools, basic techniques, a source and buyer's guide, and templates. They offer the templates online at MarthaStewart.com for quick printing as well. I'm most excited to use the templates to try my hand at dot-painting on china.
If you are lucky enough to live in the NYC area, Martha will be at the Michael's in Westbury, Long Island on Friday, April 3rd at 12pm. She will be there to sign copies of the book and Hannah Milman, one of her crafts editorial directors, will be demonstrating some of the projects.
How would you like to win a copy of the book for yourself? Martha Stewart Crafts has been gracious to offer FIVE copies of the book to be given away to christynelson.net readers. Entering is easy:
1. Comment on this post. Share your own personal "good thing" if you feel inclined. It isn't mandatory. Just make sure you leave an email address, twitter id, or some other way for me to contact you.
2. Tell a friend about the giveaway. You can do this via your blog, twitter, kirtsy, stumble upon, telephone, walking next door, etc... Leave another comment telling me you did that.
You have until 10pm (Central time) Friday, April 3rd to enter. Winners will be posted on Saturday.

Oooh...what a great resource!
I buy fabric from the remnant bin to make aprons. I use the scraps to applique embellishments on other aprons. Anything that is too small to make an applique with gets chopped, tossed in a bag and used to stuff plushie toys. Using every last bit is a Good Thing!
I blogged about this. :-) www.lolocraft.blogspot.com
Awesome giveaway! My "Good Thing" is baby wipes. Ok, I never said it was original...but you put me on the spot here :) Baby wipes clean EVERYTHING.
How fantastic! I cam over from Aunt LoLo's blog :) My good thing is looking for inspiration in everything!
OOH Pick me.
And I don't have a good thing. Which is why I need this book, no? :)
And I twittered about the giveaway:
http://twitter.com/melissasool
I am so glad I found you and your blog via Twitter...and I'd love to see what ol' Martha has up her sleeve. My "good thing" is Fabri-Tac. I use it on...well..everything. Can't have a well-stocked art cabinet without it!
I'll leave links on both my Facebook page and Twitter. Does that count twice? -Jenny at CraftTestDummies
I'm commenting, I'm commenting! And facebooking it as we speak...
i found this from twitter, great giveaway! my favorite new Good Thing are buying skirts from thrift stores- they have a good amount of unbroken fabric to reuse in new projects, and most have matching linings already (i made a purse with one!) it's a great way to recycle fabric instead of buying new!
My good thing is buy fabric for a quilt and have others comment "you putting all those colors in the same quilt" and my response is "UMMM, yes, why not" And when the quilt is complete the colors are just perfect together.
I'd like to enter to win the book, please!

Words cannot express how excited I am about this book. I have been anxiously waiting for it since I first heard about it on the Martha website.
Making crafts with your children from a young age and watching the awe and joy in their eyes throughout the process and seeing their unbridled excited at the finished product is a Good Thing!

Hi! Thanks for the contest. I let my friends know. My good thing is keeping a paper bag nearby for paper trimmings and scraps. I fish what I can use out of the bag, but if nothing is usable, once the bag is full, it can be put right into the recycling.
You know my good thing: upcycle! Make new things out of old ones.

Oh and I'm putting you on my blog and Facebook!

Ooh. This could be dangerous. I already have too many things on my new crafts to try list. :)
This book sounds AMAZING! Martha Stewart's good thing feature is my fave. My good thing is undoubtedly Craigslist. I've gotten everything from mirrored furniture to a croquet set from there. And much less expenive (or free!) than retail.
(And thanks to Kaylen for directing me over here. Think I'll stay for a while!)
I am in LOVE with Martha. I keep my fabric scraps (usually strips from quilting that are too narrow to sew into something) and use them for decorations around the house (old mason jars) or I take them to school and my kindergarten students turn them into hats & scarves for popcicle snowmen.
I blogged about it here:

Believe it or not, the first time I heard of Martha Stewart (her being not that much of a household name in my home country a few years back) was when somebody commented online that "Martha Stewart would be proud of you!" and I went, "Oh. Who's Martha Stewart? ^^; ". =P
But since then, her show's been on local TV and I've spent hours on her site, such an inspiration. :D
